Texas Roads are Dramatic. Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Highway Comparison.

by Kinyo

San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Houston are all within 4 hours of each other. All of these are major cities each has its own style of road obsession.

San Antonio is the mildest of them all and yet the 410 loop is basically Nascar. The fragments of I-10 and I-35 inside the loop are also just as fun and quick to drive.

1604 is the foundation of a freeway expansion that might soon extend all the way to New Braunfels.

Austin has the most predictable freeways. Long tracks to get you from one giant neck of the woods to the other.

Dallas has weaved a web of commons sense around the entire region, including Ft. Worth. They’ve somehow insulated their downtown area like a fortress. The heavy freeways that weave around it don’t seem to bother it much.

Houston is having the most trouble. They share their trouble with tolls that ostensibly pay for direct routes that are often the only sensible route.

While driving in Houston feel free to take frequent stops to see what your next move is. There is no shame. Houston has a continent of cement stretching for hours. It’s impressive.
